electric wheel with motor for ebike kits

Electric Wheel

Your UK assembled electric wheel is by Cyclotricity.

It uses 36 spokes and houses a 3-phase 250W geared motor.

There is no tube or tyre with the electric wheel. Simply use your current tyre and tube.

Your electric wheel will be despatched direct from Cyclotricity.

LCD Display

The Basicfit kit is supplied with a LCD4 display chosen for its small size. The purpose of the LCD4 is to set the wheel size and choose the power assistance. The speed and mileage are not accurate as it reflects the motor speed and not your ride speed.

If you need to monitor your speed and distance, use a phone app, bike computer or purchase LCD3 display.

Displays other than LCD4 are outside our scope of support.

LCD display controller for uk ebike kits

PAS Sensor

The purpose of the PAS sensor is to understand when the pedals are being turned. It knows this by monitoring a ring of 12 magnets held around a magnetic disc which pass a small sensor which you attach to your frame.

The 12 magnet clip-on disc and sensor are the same type used by the popular Swytch kits.

Whilst the magnetic disc is simple to install, PAS sensors are notoriously difficult to install. This is because every bike frame has a different profile. If you struggle to install your PAS sensor, the simplest cost-effective solution is to visit a local bike shop who will have the experience and tools to complete this for you relatively inexpensively.

You may find useful information on the Swytch support website.

Many ebike kit owners find inventive ways of securing their sensor, such as silicone or other adhesives. Others choose to remove the back plate to create a thinner sensor needed for their frame. How you install the sensor is up to you and outside the scope of our support and so we recommend visiting your local bike shop for assistance.

pedal assist system for easifit ebike kits

Easifit Intelligent Control

The electric bike kit uses a smart gyroscope within the battery housing to calculate your incline and speed. The gyroscope switches on automatically to provide assistance when you begin pedalling and turns off when you brake or no longer need it.

When going uphill, the gyroscope can sense the incline and provide power assist. You can even set the app to deliver additional assistance when the gyroscope senses you are going uphill. Pretty cool, right?

If you gather speed cycling downhill, don’t worry – any speed above 15 mph will stop the motor and save your battery, while allowing you to keep pedalling manually.

Easifit App by LVBU

The Easifit ebike kit is connected using an app.

Your phone will need Bluetooth 5.0

The app can be downloaded for Android and Apple.

You will need to download the app, connect your ebike kit and then calibrate your ebike kit.

The app’s main feature is customisable assistance levels, ranging from 0 to 99%. According to other ebike users, the average assistance level is 50%. Reducing the assistance level will enable a longer battery life.

Battery Safety and Maintenance

Once you receive your ebike battery, it will be partially charged. To ensure optimal performance, here’s how to condition your battery: fully-charge it, use it until empty, and fully recharge it. Do this three times for the best results.

The charger’s indicator light will turn green when the battery is fully charged. To avoid the battery’s low voltage and the detrimental effect it has on the battery’s performance, we recommend charging the battery at least once every three months, especially if you’re not using the bike for an extended period of time.

Batteries do not last forever. By their nature, they degrade over time. So you should not expect the same performance over time. A typical lithium battery, managed well, will lose at least 20% of its performance over 12 months.

Battery Safety

Only ever use the battery charger provided.
Never leave a lithium battery unattended whilst charging.
Do not leave your battery charging overnight.
If leaving your battery uncharged for more than 8 weeks, leave it half charged.
Re-charge it every 4 weeks for 1 hour to keep it in top condition.
Warning: By leaving the battery idle for longer than 8 weeks, you run the risk of loss in performance or other faults that won’t be covered under warranty.
Do not expose the battery pack to fire, heat sources, acid or alkaline substances.
Keep the battery away from radiators.
Always charge the battery at room temperature.
Always make sure the battery is turned off before detaching/connecting it.
If your battery is damaged or appears to be overheating for any reason contact us immediately.

Maintenance

Do not leave your converted ebike uncovered in the rain.
Your ebike kit is showerproof to IP65 but if used in the rain you should dry the battery, motor and cables to prevent water ingress or damage to connections. No damage from water ingress is covered by your warranty.
Cover any unused connectors with tape.

Throttles

Do not install a throttle or brake levers.
Your ebike kit is configured to meet the UK legal requirements for road use.
Do not attempt to derestrict or engineer adjustments which remove legal use.
Attempting to do so will void your warranty.

eBike Kit Support Questions

How far will the ebike go?

For a typical user, this e-bike conversion kit will provide a distance of 30 miles per charge. That’s an average of 2 hours of cycling for the average user.

Logically, the more assistance you use, the more of the battery will be used. Likewise, the fitter you are and the less assistance you need, the longer the battery will last.

The nature of the terrain and the hills will also affect how far the ebike will go on a single charge.

In our trials, we are achieving 30 miles on a single battery charge at 50% assistance. That is more than enough for a daily commute. Should you wish to increase or decrease the assistance, the battery power will adjust accordingly.

Finally, should you find your battery depleted a little earlier than you planned, at only 3.5 kg, this e bike conversion kit will make very little difference to the weight of your bicycle. Although, having made pedal assist your default cycling mode, you will notice the difference when riding without power.

How fast will the ebike go?

The speed is limited by law, rather than the technical capability of the motor. Not everyone is aware that there is a legal limit for ebikes of 15.5 mph. This ebike conversion kit is designed to cut out the motor above this speed and keep you legal.

Of course, you’re able to cycle faster than this, particularly downhill. It’s only that the motor will stop giving assistance above this speed. Out of interest, my average speed even with the motor is only 12 mph. The UK legal limit of 15.5 mph is more than sufficient for commuters and leisure road users.

What types of bikes will the ebike conversion kit fit?

Step 1: Take a look at your front tyre. It’s not often you need to do this, but now is when you learn what those numbers around your tyre mean. Write down what you see. Then return here to find out more.

Step 2: The majority of conventional bikes have a gap at the front fork of 10 cm. This is what you’ll need to easily fit your new motorised wheel. So go grab a tape measure, and as long as gap between your front forks is 10 cm or more (up to a maximum of 13 cm), then your conventional bike can be converted to an ebike.

As an aside, the ebike wheel slips into slots in the fork bottom. Most conventional bikes use this design. There are some bike designs which have a hole through the forks, known as a thru axle, rather than a traditional slot. This easyfit ebike kit can’t be fitted to such designs and you’ll need to find an alternative. Just make a quick check that you’re bike has the traditional 1 cm drop-in forks.

What is included in the ebike kit?

Within your ‘easyfit’ ebike conversion kit, you’ll receive the 3 key items:

– 250W Front Motor

– Front-wheel with pre-installed tyre (motor is pre-installed within the wheel )

– Water bottle battery and intelligent cage

Also included are the spanner, Allen keys, cable ties and instructions to install your ebike kit.

How do I install the ebike conversion kit?

These easyfit ebike kits are easy to install. Alongside our instruction booklet and installation video, your ebike kit can be ready to go with only a front wheel change, attaching a water bottle cage and connecting one wire. You’ll also need to download the app to control your pedal assistance levels.

The very basic spanner and Allen keys needed come in the box, so you don’t need to worry about having the right tools or buying additional equipment. You can safely and easily install the ebike conversion kit straight out of the box.

Don’t be put off if your engineering abilities are limited – ours are too. This is why we were drawn to the simplicity of these ebike kits. If you can tighten a nut, you can install the kit.

Our conversion kit is aimed at cyclists that may not be as mechanically minded as say a seasoned mountain biker. These conversion kits can be fitted easily by anyone regardless of their engineering ability. It’s just two nuts, a cage and a wire. We even include a complimentary spanner and a set of Allen keys.

Does the ebike kit need disc brakes or V brakes?

Either. Whether you have disc brakes or the traditional V brakes, you’re good to go. The ebike conversion kit comes with a 160mm disc as standard. It’s up to you whether you need to install the disc depending on your type of brakes.

How much do ebike conversion kits cost?

Our electric bike kits costs £499.00 including next day delivery – the cheapest ‘easyfit’ ebike conversion kits available in the UK.

Our aim is to make electric cycling available to as many people as possible. With a particular focus on commuting and leisure use, this affordable e-bike conversion kit should save you transport costs, improve your health, mood and significantly increase the miles cycled on your existing bike.

Who are ebike kits for?

The easy to fit ebike conversion kits sold by myelectricbikeshop.com are for the average commuter and leisure cyclist. That is, the person who wants to use their bike more regularly, particular for going to and from work, or simply just getting out and about more.

There’s plenty of scope for both commuting to work and for leisure rides. This is because you can expect our efficient yet powerful lithium batteries to give you typically 25 miles journey distance on a single charge.

Or, to look at it another way, approximately 2 hours cycling time. Your average commute is less than an hour one-way, right? Of course, it is. Should you wish to be cycling further and longer than the average office worker, our charger can be recharging your battery at the office.

(Edit: that’s 50 miles on a single recharge. Surely, no one cycles that far to and from work? I wouldn’t put it past that someone but they should probably move house 🙂 )

If you are a hardcore mountain biker who cycles off-road, you may want to look at regular ebikes designed for this purpose. The easy to fit ebike conversions are suited for standard roads, cycle paths, managed tracks and bridleways.

What stock of ebike conversion kits do you have?

We are official UK partners for the ‘easy to fit’ ebike conversion kits that are proving popular in the UK.

As such, we are in direct contact with our manufacturing partner and intend to stock popular sizes for commuting and hybrid bikes. These are the popular 26”, 27.5” and 700C sizes.

You can view our live stock status here. We’re regularly re-ordering stock of easy to fit ebike conversion kits from our manufacturing partner in China. All orders are completed online, with full transparency and forwarded to reach the UK in 8 weeks.

If you’re looking for a 26”, 27.5” or 700C ebike conversion kit, the easiest conversion is an exact match. However, if your like for like size is not available, and you’re in a rush to convert your normal bike to an ebike, there are a couple of simple alternatives.

Alternative 1
Simply swap your existing tyre onto the new wheel. Simples. You may also want to do this if a colour match is important to you and your existing tyre is a colour other than black. Whatever the reason, if you really need your ebike kit delivered asap, then this option will provide a wider choice of stock.

As long as the wheel size is the same, that is 26”, 27.5” or 700C (sames as 28”) then you can order a similar tyre width and install your existing tyre onto your motorised ebike wheel.

Alternative 2
Buy your ebike conversion kit with the correct wheel size and a closely matched tyre width. After all, the wheel size is the critical measurement whilst the width can actually be chosen with some flexibility, if you need your ebike converting quickly. After all, are you really going to notice a couple of mm width difference in your tyre? Thought not.

For the average (ofcourse your special but unless you’re competing with in the Olympics…) commuter, you’re unlikely to notice the difference. And if something is noticeable to you, you can always go back to alternative 1, right?

So check stock of your easyfit ebike conversion kits here

How do I use the mobile app?

The WePower app must be downloaded to your phone from the Google Play or Apple Store.

The app is your control device for the motor. The Bluetooth scanner will find your motor, connect remotely and track your mileage, speed and climbs.

The main feature of the app is to be able to set the level of assistance desired. This can be anywhere from zero to 99%. From what we read, other ebike users typically set their assistance at 60% or close to. Logically, the less assistance you take, the longer the battery will last without needing a recharge.

When I started on my ebike, I hadn’t ridden for a long time. I had to set it at 80%. However, after only a few rides I’m currently down to 70% and hope to keep reducing this as I achieve more time on my bike.

Our most important take-away? You’ll rarely need to touch the app. Once the Bluetooth is connected and you’ve set your assistance, we place our mobile phone in our pocket and don’t look or touch it until the end of the ride. Why over-complicate things?

For the more technically gifted, some useful features available include:

– 5 modes of assist
– Set increased pedal assistance for hill climbing
– Can be handlebar mounted or inserted into a satchel

Personally, we feel you’ll find the hill assistance particularly useful. This mode allows you to set an increased assistance level when the app detects that you are cycling up a hill. It is able to do this by reading the gyroscope installed within the battery holder. Clever, don’t you think?

How does the motorised wheel work?

At the heart of your ‘easy to fit’ ebike conversion kit is the 250W front motor. Why 250W? Because that is the legal limit in the UK. This is plenty to achieve the maximum road limit of 15 mph.

The technical details are that it is a H600 Bafang 250W sealed and brushless motor.  Bafang are the worlds leading motor supplier to ebikes around the globe. Designed specifically for road and leisure use, the design is compact and light, weighing only 1.73kg, and having a maximum torque of 30 Nm.

Unlike cheap ebike kits, your motor comes preinstalled within the front wheel size you choose. All you need to do is drop in your wheel, attach the battery to your frame and connect the two together. Simples!

The motor is specifically designed for front wheels. Other ebike motors are available both for the rear wheel and the mid-frame. However, these are expensive, heavy and difficult to install. As such, we provide front wheel versions only.

How does the pedal assist work?

Good question. Within the battery housing is a smart gyroscope. This clever device calculates both your incline and your speed. So much so that it automatically gives assistance went you start to peddle and knows to cut out when you brake. In short, it switches on when you need it and off when you don’t.

With regards to hills, the gyroscope can sense the incline and provide power assist. You can even apply a setting on the app to deliver additional assistance when the gyroscope senses you are going uphill. How cool is that?

Of course, should you be gathering speed cycling downhill, any speed above 15 mph cuts out the motor and saves your battery, and without inhibiting your manual speed.

How does the water bottle battery work?

Your battery sits within the provided water bottle cradle. The cradle, which also contains the smart gyroscope, sits comfortably where your existing water bottle holder is located.

Should you want to check the space and location for the battery holder, you’ll need:

– Existing fixings on your forward leaning frame section
– 32 centimetres of available space at your fixings location to house the cage

The water bottle shape helps your bike retain the look of a regular bicycle. Yet on the inside it houses twenty high quality lithium-ion battery cells of 36V and 5.8AH.

As well as a strong battery for your motor, your water bottle battery also features a USB charging port for your mobile phone – should you need it.

Perhaps more importantly, the battery features a clever anti-theft device.

How does the anti theft device work?

Whilst your newly converted ebike will look inconspicuous to the glancing eye, unfortunately, theft is a fact of life. To counter this, the ebike kit houses a unique anti-theft control. In simple terms, your ebike is able to be disabled from your mobile app.

Having dismounted from your ebike, tap the padlock icon on the app to switch on the security lock. Should someone try to move your ebike whilst this is activated, the wheel will lock into reverse and an alarm will be activated. When remounting your ebike, remember to tap the padlock icon once more to deactivate the alarm.

How long is the warranty?

Your ebike conversion kit features a one year manufacturer’s warranty.

Are your ebike kits waterproof?

Ebike conversion kits offer protection to IP65. This provides a level of protection which is sufficient for cycling in showers. As a matter of taking care of both your bike and the ebike kit, we’d recommend drying down your kit and battery to remove any surface water and to protect the integrity of the kit and the connections. If you must cycle in rain, a protective cover can be easily bought online. Store out of the rain in a dry, covered place. As with all warranties of kits, water degradation is excluded.

How much does the ebike kit weigh?

The ‘easy to fit’ ebike conversion kits weigh an additional 3.5kg. Lightweight and hardly noticeable when riding.

Do these ebike kits work with a Brompton bike?

No. A Brompton bike has only an 8 cm gap between their forks and too small for this ebike kit. Try a Swytch ebike conversion kit.

What does my fault code mean?

As with any equipment, errors can occur. Happily, most errors can be solved without too much heartache. Should your WePower app display a fault, the list below will help you to understand what you’re dealing with.

Fault 01: An over-current or sudden breakdown of MOS.

Remedy:

Disconnect and reconnect the motor cable from the battery cable and restart the kit in the app.

Should Fault 01 remain after restarting the kit in the app, and the motor is stuck when reversing, this implies a MOS fail. The controller needs to be replaced.

***

Fault 02: The motor is stuck. This can occur when the wheel is stopped by force or other an object.

Remedy:

Remove any object that is restricting the movement of the motor.

Restart the kit in the app

***

Fault 08: Connection Fault. The connection between the motor wheel and the controller is poor.

Remedy:

Detach and reconnect the motor cable and the battery cable.

***

Fault 10: Gyroscope fault. Moisture detected within the controller affecting the gyroscope.

Remedy:

Dry the controller and allow any moisture to disappear by leaving it in a warm environment.

If this doesn’t resolve the problem, a new controller is required.

***

Fault 20: Electronics failed.

Remedy: Dry the controller or replace the controller.

Dry the controller and allow any moisture to disappear by leaving it in a warm environment.

If this doesn’t resolve the problem, a new controller is required.

***

Fault 40: Motor is abnormal. This can be either because the motor wire is poorly or broken; the motor is burnt out, or the internal is rubbing the circuit.

Remedy:

Check the motor cable and battery cable are connected properly.

Restart the kit in the app.

Check the motor wire. If the wire is broken, the motor needs to be replaced.

***

Please be aware that there may be more than one fault code applied. For example, fault 48 would be fault 40 and fault 08..
